Volunteers of America Delaware Valley is Hiring a Payroll Accountant Near Camden, NJ

SCOPE OF DUTIES:

  • Interact (verbally and nonverbally) with all clients, staff, and outside contacts professionally with respect and courtesy
  • Maintain client & staff confidentiality in compliance with administrative policies and procedures
  • Attend and participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings, supervisory conferences training sessions and meetings as required
  • Receive and enter employee information into payroll software
  • Verify working hours and pay rates
  • Complete processing of bi-weekly payroll for all employees in accordance with all federal, state and local requirements
  • Update payroll records by reviewing and approving changes in exemptions, job titles and department and division transfers
  • Pay employees by directing the production and issuance of paychecks or electronic transfers to bank accounts
  • Ensure accurate leave and salary accruals
  • Determine payroll liabilities by approving the calculation of employee federal and state income and social security taxes, and employer's social security, and worker's compensation payments
  • Maintain all general ledger accounts in connection with payroll. Resolve payroll discrepancies by analyzing general ledger accounts monthly, quarterly, and annually
  • Prepare and analyze payroll information for annual payroll audit
  • Ensure timely, correct payroll information to the third-party administrator for tax filing
  • Ensure the timely and accurate release of paychecks to Directors (or designee) for distribution to employees
  • Ensure accurate, timely reports (vacation, sick and personal holiday) for each department and distribute to the appropriate supervisors bi-weekly. Develop new reports as appropriate
  • Maintain and protect payroll and benefits operations by keeping information confidential and in a secured area
  • Provide payroll information and training to all current and new supervisors
  • Maintain payroll guidelines by following payroll policies and procedures
  • Maintain payroll information by designing systems, directing the collections and calculation and entering of data.
  • Comply with federal, state and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation's, enforcing adherence to requirements and advising Director of Accounting on needed actions
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; and reviewing professional publications
  • Assist the accounting department and collaborating with other interoffice personnel
  • Complete other duties as assigned

    ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    1. Regularly required to stand, walk, sit

    2. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

    3. Ability to lift 25 lbs

    CREDENTIALS/ABILITIES

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or equivalent preferred
  • Five (5) years payroll/bookkeeping experience preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills 
  • Excellent multitasking skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Highly developed attention to detail
  • Understands level of confidentiality required in payroll processing
  • Able to meet specific deadlines related to payroll
  • Proficient in payroll functions including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes
  • Proficient with MS Office software suite to include excel and pivot tables
  • Comprehensive familiarity with payroll software and processes (knowledge of UltiPro/Ultimate Time Management Software a plus)
  • Working knowledge of payroll procedures
  • Must understand the principles of basic bookkeeping and accrual accounting
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and meet agency requirements
